The Parish of St. Michaels was created when an âOrder of Councilâ from the Archbishop of Canterbury was approved by Queen Victoria on 9th July 1864. St. Michaels Parish came into being on the 12th of July when the Order was published in the London Gazette.

The village sign takes as its theme the Biblical conflict between St. Michael the Archangel and Satan (often depicted as a dragon). St. Michael prevailed, driving the dragon from heaven and down to earth. It is a parable of the victory of goodness over evil.
